The Show Went On for Sandugo 2019 Performers

Seven contingents from different towns and schools in Bohol were able to compete for the title as Grand Champion in the Sandugo Street Dancing and Kuradang Competition 2019. From glamorous costumes to engaging music, each contingent had exerted all their efforts to perfect their performance.

Catigbian National High School has been hailed as the grand winner of the competition with trophy and P300, 000 as a cash prize. Baclayon National High School and the Municipality of Tubigon bagged the first and second runner-up, respectively. They won P250, 000 for the first runner-up and P200, 000 for the second runner-up.

Aside from being declared as the grand winner, Catigbian National High School also won the most number of minor awards as Best in Dramatization Production, Best in Design, Best in Music and Best Performer in a Lead Role for Male as Dagohoy.

The municipality of Tubigon also has an addition to their 2nd runner up win. They were declared as Most Lively Group that brings them additional P10K to their win.

Saint Anthony’s Academy also received four minor awards; Best in Costume Group, Best Kuradang King and Queen, Best Performer in a Lead Role for Female as Cariapa and Best in Street Dancing.

Before the grand showdown at the CPG Complex, the Sandugo activities started with a street dancing at CPG Avenue at 3PM. Everyone was in high anticipation of all the performances. Unlike the previous years, the sky was gloomy on that afternoon. It was good for the performers and spectators not to witness under the scorching heat of the sun.

With their lively performances, the contingents were able to give the spectators the best show. On assigned areas also, the contingents were able to show their full street dancing act.

Here are the list of this year’s contingents in order of performance:

  • Barangay Katipunan, Anda
  • Hagbuaya High School, Catigbian
  • St. Anthony’s Academy – Carmen
  • Dimiao National High School – Dimiao
  • Catigbian National High School – Catigbian
  • Municipality of Tubigon
  • Municipality of Baclayon

For this year, Lumad Napoanon of Loon was a guest performer and has been backed by Air Asia to present their engaging street dancing number. It is known to many that Lumad Napoanon is a hall of famer in this competition. Tribu Ilonganon of Dinagyang Festival gave a Dinagyang vibe in the streets of Tagbilaran City with their costumes and music.

At around 6PM, heavy rain poured that affects the performances. Even if it kept on raining, the show went on. Despite the weather conditions, local officials were still there to witness the performances of all the contingents.

This year’s theme on the competition is about “Bangga sa Kuradang ug Pasundayag sa Bol-anong Kasaysayan”. Because of that the contingents were able to bring back the Boholano history on their acts and some of the popular Visayan Songs.

During the Dinagyang performance, one of the lights on the stage suddenly lit up. With guidance from the Fire Department, it was quickly fixed. Despite the presence of that incident, the group continued with their presentation.

Despite all the happenings, the show went on. This only proves that resiliency is observed in this festivity. As observed also on most acts, resiliency among the Bolanos during those times of colonization and calamities is noticeable.

Indeed, the Sandugo Festival 2019 was a success! With great help from all the committees, this year’s Sandugo Festival is one for the books.
